For Katie Kishida, the nanotechnology revolution begins with an act of love. Katie is a young mother with a successful career and a loving marriage, when her perfect life is shattered by the sudden death of her husband, Tom. Putting her faith in a science that hasn’t been invented yet, Katie has Tom’s body placed in cryonic suspension—frozen in liquid nitrogen against a time when advances in nanotechnology might heal his injuries and restore his life. Katie never suspects the consequences that will follow. Tom’s death and his costly entombment spark immediate political controversy. It’s a debate that only grows more passionate as the years pass. Katie’s life is taken over by the need to defend her husband’s future and to shepherd into existence the controversial technologies that might let him live again . . . even as she’s haunted by the question Does Tom really want to come back?

Tech-Heaven is a compelling story of devotion and unyielding determination set amid the tumultuous politics of our time, in a world that is teetering on the cusp of a technological revolution like no other in history.

Enjoy all four books of the Nanotech Succession, a collection of stand-alone novels exploring the rise of nanotechnology and the strange and fascinating future that follows—beginning tomorrow and reaching far into time.

TechHeaven The Nanotech Succession Book 0 edition by Linda Nagata Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

As for this being a part of the nanotech succession I say bah! Aside from one or two points that can be vaguely connected by a fan boy, this has little to nothing to do with the nanotech plot. As for this being an awesome look at the social implications of burgeoning front line technology, this book is just that. It's riveting, heart wrenching and thought provoking. A woman defies all logic and opinion advancing technology that she sees as capable of saving her husband from the brink of death. To the rest of the world she is a mad woman that refuses to accept death. Both sides are correct but where there's a will and an electronic bio engineer, there's a way. This is less sci fi and more a look at social and ethical questions not too far off in our own reality. That said its drama and romance is perfectly woven into the technocracy of the genre in a way that only Linda Nagata can pull off.
A must read for anyone who has had to face true love lost or anyone who likes asking questions about what we can do as opposed to what we ethically should do in the name of scientific advancement.

TechHeaven The Nanotech Succession Book 0 edition by Linda Nagata Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Tech Heaven is the fictional story of one family's experience with the nascent science of post-mortis cryonics, and their struggle to develop and legalize the nanotechnology that could revive their lost father.

Linda Nagata concentrates on creating a compelling and shockingly accurate (IMHO) picture of what the process would look like at a macro level, then applying it to her main character's view point, and succeeding in making the journey interesting and engaging.

Strikingly, none of her characters are paragons. Like real people, most of them reside in a moral gray area and are usually unsure of exactly what they want to do, save for the main character and her family's sole obsession. This, in effect, makes the book a challenging read since it requires the reader to develop their own opinions about what is going on in the near-future America that Linda has crafted so intricately. There are a lot of heavy questions...many of which you could realistically find yourself asking within the next few decades! For a futurist like myself, this book will offer a lot of food for thought.

Of course, the journey is exciting, too! The book spans several decades, but takes breaks at key moments in her characters' life which invariably come fraught with danger and intrigue, from humanist terrorist groups to high-tech espionage and political intrigue, this book maps out the events that could indeed touch a figure like the book's main character Katie.

If you're interested in a compelling speculative fiction story, you'd be well advised to pick up Tech Heaven!
Loved the book. Personally the alternate time bits were a bit off and I am not sure how to fit them in, except that it all made sense in the end.
Sci Fi at it's grandest, with huge ideas, interesting characters and it's own universe. After a while, you start accepting the wildest ideas as if they could exist.
Nagata's writing is good as always, but I missed the fast pace of the worlds she created in the other books in this series.
I've yet to be disappointed with any of her books. This is a prequel to the original nanotech series and sets the early background for that most excellent body of works. She has a great ability to bring her characters to life and make them interesting. I will say that if you're looking for constant shoot-em-up action, shallow character development, and simplistic plots, look elsewhere. I'm going to try some of her non-nanotech books next, I don't expect to be disappointed.
A very enjoyable book showing the promise of a future with nanotechnology. I'm still a little skeptical about bringing corpsicles back to life the way it was portrayed in the book, as the damage done by freezing tissue is going to be extreme. I think it would take a full medical lab and very specialized medical nanorobots to actually make a resurrection possible the way it was done in the book.

Other than that small detail, the book was decently paced and entertaining. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in a good science fiction book about nanotechnology.
